second-handRhopoint IQ-S

The Rhopoint IQ-S is an easy-to-use and cost effective appearance measuring instrument that not only measure gloss, but also capable of quantifying surface defects such as haze and orange peel.

Commodity details

Rhopoint IQ-S 20°/60°/85°

The Rhopoint IQ-S is an innovative advanced measuring instrument that provides key measures of surface appearance like gloss, haze, Distinctness Of Image (DOI) and Reflected Image Quality (RIQ). It is a cost effective solution capable of detecting surface defects such as orange peel or reflection haze that are invisible to a standard gloss meter.

The IQ-S is designed and built specifically to match automotive interior gloss measurement standards. Its gloss measurements are fully compatible with existing Micro-TRI-gloss – S results.

Available in Dualgloss 20/60° or Trigloss 20/60/85° versions, both are close tolerance selected for maximum accuracy and resolution in all gloss applications.

The Rhopoint IQ-S measures

GLOSS

A measurement proportional to the amount of light reflected from a surface. For best results, the appropriate measurement geometry should be chosen based on the reflectance of the material; Matt Finish 85°, Mid Gloss 60°, High Gloss and Metallics 20°.

Measurement Unit: GU.

RSPEC

The peak gloss value over a very narrow angle. This parameter is very sensitive to small changes in surface texture and is ideal for identifying subtle differences in surface smoothness.

Measurement Unit: GU.

REFLECTION HAZE

An optical effect caused by microscopic textures or residue on a surface. Visible Symptoms includes Milky finish apparent on surface, loss of reflected contrast, halos and patterns seen around reflections of high intensity light sources. Specifically applicable to high gloss on materials such as metallic and mirrors.  Its potential causes includes poor dispersion, raw material incompatibility, additive migration, vehicle quality, stoving, drying and curing conditions, polishing marks, fine scratches, aging, oxidation, poor cleanliness or surface residue. Measurement.

Unit: Hu and LogHU.

DISTINCTNESS OF IMAGE (DOI)

A measure of how clearly a reflected image appears in a reflective surface. Visible Symptoms of Poor DOI includes Orange peel, brush marks, waviness or other structures visible on the surface and distorted reflected images.  Potential causes includes application problems, incorrect coating flow, coating viscosity too high/low, sag or flow of coating before curing, incorrect particle size/distribution, overspray, improper flash/recoat time, inter coat compatibility, incorrect cure times and cure temperature.

Measurement Scale: 0-100; 100 indicating a perfect smooth surface.

REFLECTED IMAGE QUALITY (RIQ)

Reflected Image Quality (RIQ) is used to detect Orange peel effects. However, the RIQ value provides higher resolution results with better correlation to the human perception of surface textures, especially on high quality surfaces like automotive paints.

Measurement Scale: 0-100; 100 indicating a perfect smooth surface.

GONIOPHOTOMETRIC PROFILE

IQ-S displays surface reflectance profiles 17-23°. The shape of the curve describes the interaction of light with the surface. Sharp curves, close to the specular direction, indicate a smooth and highly reflective surfaces.
